Background
This typeface is the same as that obtained with a ®Leroy lettering template. ®Leroy is the Registered Trademark of Keuffel & Esser Company.
Engineering Standard is an adaptation of an unnamed Leroy/Wrico typeface, commonly present in engineering drawings, made popular by drafting templates and drawing tools produced by those (and other) companies. The Leroy/Wrico font itself is an adaptation of an engraving font commonly called Gorton, produced by George Gorton Company in Wisconsin starting in the late 19th century.
Excellent article on the background of this design, written by Marcin Wichary.
